Proportion and symmetry mean everything when it comes to the body, especially with the breasts. Smaller areolas can enhance the overall shape of the breasts, while larger areolas can take up too much of the surface of the breast, emphasizing a pubertal or cone-shaped breast. You may feel self-conscious about the size of your nipples or feel that the pigmentation around the nipple is too spread out. All these issues can be addressed through areola reduction surgery.

After your areola reduction procedure, you’ll return home the same day. Generally we use stitches that dissolve so you will not need to have stitches removed at the office. Avoid strenuous activity for a few days following the surgery. You should be able to return to normal activity the next day, but refrain from physical activity for 4-6 weeks.

The size and shape of your breasts are just part of the equation when it comes to feeling beautiful. Areola size, color, and symmetry can add to or detract from the appearance of your breasts. Areolas that are larger than they should be give the breast an immature, pointy appearance. At times, the areola can stay “puffy” and swollen-looking, which detracts from the overall beauty of the breasts. Changing the shape and size of the areola can restore rounder and more normal-looking breasts.
