A breast lift, or mastopexy, raises the breasts, tightens the skin, and improves the shape of the breasts for a more youthful appearance. Breast lift surgery can also be used in conjunction with augmentation to add fullness to the upper pole. Dr. Gurley emphasizes the possibilities to lift the breast without an implant. Implants are only necessary to add volume or emphasize breast fullness. In addition, one of the advantages of a breast lift is that the nipple and areola can be resized, lifted, and re-positioned along with the breast tissue. With this procedure it is possible to change a V shaped breast to a U shaped breast which naturally restores a youthful appearance.
