Most women want their mons pubis, which is the area just above their labia on the pubic bone, to be slim and unnoticeable. When this area enlarges, it is referred to as FUPA, a fatty upper pubic area, which may be difficult to conceal. Weight fluctuations, pregnancy, and genetics can cause a FUPA to form. Stubborn fat and c-section scars also contribute to the formation of a fatty upper pubis.
We can correct FUPA with a procedure called Monsplasty.

Monsplasty is a procedure that permanently reduces the size and noticeability of this private area by removing fat and/or skin. How this surgical procedure is approached depends on the patient’s unique anatomy. Liposuction may be sufficient to remove fullness if there is minimal skin laxity. Skin removal with a small horizontal incision in the bikini area lifts the sagging mons pubis. Combining liposuction and skin tightening corrects a deformity involving both fat and skin.
This surgical procedure depends on the patient’s anatomy. In some cases, liposuction alone can treat FUPA. Some patients may need skin removal in combination with liposuction if there is excess skin.
Alternatives to FUPA reduction include Coolsculpting or Lipodissolve. Coolsculpting is a freezing device that treats fat. However, it is imprecise, costly, has minimal results (many patients are unsatisfied), and some patients experience a rebound swelling of the treated areas. With non-surgical devices, the fat is destroyed and left where it is with the hope that the body will dispel the discharge. Lipodissolve does not guarantee significant improvement, and there would be minimal to no results.
We recommend compression to help control the swelling and keep the area comfortable. The swelling is gone within a few weeks. No drains are needed, and any stitches placed would be dissolvable. Patients can drive, work, and walk as much as they want the next day but refrain from aggressive activities for several weeks until the healing process is further along.
A FUPA reduction is the perfect operation for those who want to discreetly contour an area that is bothersome to them where “No one will know. Everyone will notice. ™” It prevents patients from wearing supportive undergarments and allows women to wear bathing suits, dresses, and tight-fitted clothing.
The cost for FUPA reduction surgery usually falls within this range, however you will receive an exact cost when you meet with Dr. Gurley.
