Gynecomastia surgery is an outpatient procedure performed with anesthesia. Post-operative discomfort is minimal and routine, daily activities can be resumed within a couple days. Physical activities are restricted for several days.
Liposuction alone may be sufficient to reduce gynecomastia. However, often the tissue behind the nipple is firm and is not easily removed with liposuction alone. If the condition has been present for more than two years, it is unlikely to resolve. A hormonal analysis by an endocrinologist can often rule out some known causes of male breast development.
Post-operative discomfort is typically short-lived, subsiding within a couple days. Male breast reduction is an outpatient surgery. When the surgery is over, a tight surgical garment is worn. Restricting exercise will help speed recovery and contribute to improved outcomes.
You may consider this procedure if:
You have experienced gynecomastia for more than two years or if you are frustrated by the appearance of your chest.
Real Artistic Outcomes
Dr. Gurley is an experienced plastic surgeon who has studied the causes and effects of gynecomastia. Many of her patients are in their teens or early twenties, but gynecomastia may be present later in life. It is important to select a board-certified plastic surgeon who has performed many of these corrective procedures and who has experience in contouring tissue. Dr. Gurley’s training and extensive experience give her a unique perspective for patients who want to improve the masculinity of their chest shape. After breast reduction surgery, the chest wall is flatter, there is a reduction in bulges seen through clothing, and the contour of the chest is more masculine. Men report feeling more confident in their appearance and less worried about situations in which their chest may be seen.
